Some may say that A Lovely Universe is really inspired by French girl style and with that, I say "Okay, yes". It's clear at first glance, there's some Francophile type stuff goin' on for sure. However - I've got to say that British style is also incredibly influential. Some of my favorite style muses for the shop exude that cool juxtaposition between edgy and granny chic that only British girls seem to pull off well. But really, girl style of any kind is interesting to me.
Any style lover cannot deny the power and influence of 1960's style. It's still so present in fashion season after season. Fashion is cyclical so it's natural for everything to repeat (although I could certainly live without a repeat of the Adidas color stripe sneakers of my tweendom to return). While the word "boho" is completely played out, I can't help but admit that there are some pieces in the shop that definitely fall under the category of that word. The concept of stylish, free flowing clothing that is easy to wear and layer is one that will never go away. We've gotten too comfortable with it!
One woman of this era in particular that I always find fascinating Marianne Faithfull. These are a collection of some of my favorite looks from her younger days and how they inspired a few pieces in the shop:
