After opening our doors at the very end of September 2013, A Lovely Universe has been slowly but surely turning into a quaint neighborhood haven for stylish clothing, sweet gifts and exceptional accessories all at a fantastic price point. There is nothing more exciting than coming to work each day, watching this idea grow into a reality and take shape more and more each day. 

Having a blog for the shop seems only natural. As a creative college student, blogs were my go-to for all sorts of inspiration and design guidance. My eye shaped as I made my way through fashion school in Savannah, GA, soaking in every bit of beauty that the South had to offer but once graduation hit, I knew I needed to move back north.

Brooklyn has called my name since I was a teenager after discovering the vintage clothing meccas and music scene of Williamsburg. Both sides of my family have roots in Brooklyn and the borough has just always had a sweet spot in my heart. After graduation, it was time to figure out what I wanted to do with not only my degree, but my life as well. It only seemed natural to pack up, move to the city and work in fashion. Many odd jobs in fashion, retail and marketing came and went and what truly stuck was my dream since I was a little girl, which was to open my own boutique. I had experience in running small online shops since I was in high school, which made me fall in love with the process of coming up with a business idea, executing it and controlling every aspect of it. My heart was screaming at me to take my little entrepreneurial passion to the next level, so I did.

The rest is kind of history, but here I am, after months of planning, searching, juggling, balancing, etc. the shop came to life. It took a lot of hard work, making "lemons into lemonade" and seeing the beauty and promise in anything (see photos above of what the space looked like before)

Each day, I get to experience what it's like to run a small business (all of the good and bad that comes along with it) but what's most is that I get to meet new faces everyday and feel inspired every day by all that is going on around me.

Blogs lit the fire inside of me for merchandising, design, fashion, etc. and continue to give my eye a dose of motivation each day so now is the time to create a lovely little blog for the shop. Here you will find not only updates about ALU, but posts on various topics that I feel represents what the shop's main purpose is which is to encourage everyone to live a lovely life.
